desperate for anyone semi-to-fully fluent in Japanese

...since anything is better than what I've got, which is nothing. There's a company that sends me email every single night, and I don't recall ever signing up for getting their shopping newsletter with whatever wacky Japanese department store stuff's on special that day. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, since the link at the bottom would be to unsubscribe, right? So very wrong: one link takes you to a log-in (and if you can't recall your password, it requires your name, your birthdate, and something else, and chances are good I didn't even entire the real thing, 'cause I never do unless c'card information is coming next). The other link takes you to the company's terms of service, and if you click on the "english" link, it doesn't give you the page in English. It gives you some other page about investing (in the company). I just want to bloody well unsubscribe, but there's no link (that I can see) that lets me do this quickly or easily.

Is there anyone on my flist/dwircle fluent enough in Japanese to help me decode this, and possibly figure out how to unsubscribe? I have tonight's email, and I know the address it's sending it to, and all I want is to make them stop sending me emails. The other option is to change my email, but that's a last-ditch thing seeing how it's gmail, not my own domain, so that's more of a hassle. But sheesh, this is annoying. Are unsubscribe options only a western expectation? or are unsubscribe options just spelled out in the kana, with no actual links? No idear.

*cries* I promise to love you and cherish you and call you George, if someone happened to have a few minutes to help me figure it out, or point me where to send an email to ask them to unsubscribe.

Not familiar. But if you think she could help, then probably nicer to send her this way and let her choose. (Rather than put her on the spot, I mean.)

Sadly, the donotreply function in mass emails these days means bouncing doesn't do a damn thing. They never see it, so they never get the idea the email isn't working. Grrrrr.

(Normally I wouldn't even bother, if they only sent like one email a week, or something equally minimal. But this is every single night, and I've put up with it as long as I could. It's just ridiculous.)

Can't you mark the email as spam and then have it blocked?

I've done that. 'Cept (for whatever reason, which could always be pebkap) when I divert the email directly into the trash, it won't mark it as read, first. So it continues to show up in my alerts on my dock, and I open email, only to find it's in the trash. If I want to get rid of the alert, I still have to open the trash folder, mark as read, and close again. So it's like there's no way to make it simply unobtrusive. If there were a way to do that, then I wouldn't care.

Although this could be the universe pointing out that it's time to change my email address. I try to do it at least once every year or two, but for some reason I've kept this one for almost five years. Laziness, I suppose.

That would be really awesome. No rush, since I know you have school stuff. But if you could at least tell me whether it looks like I could use the contact on the (japanese-language) site as a way to unsubscribe, that would be awesome. Then again, I guess I can only hope whomever gets it can read English... ugh.

On the plus side, it's better that it's in Japanese, since if it was in Swahili I'd probably be at a total loss. My flist is pretty linguistically diverse, but not quite that diverse!

You could just set up a filter on gmail to automatically delete their emails forever. No Japanese language skills required.

To filter, click on the box next to an email from them so it's checked. Then click "more" (next to all the icons and under the blue search thingy) and click "filter messages like these." From there, you can just have them all deleted automatically.

Unfortunately, I don't read in gmail. I'm getting it all via pop, and unless something's changed significantly in the last google rewrite, pop email doesn't apply filters before downloading. You just get it all right up. And once I d/l it, then I'm dealing with the annoyance of filtering it in Apple mail -- see my reply to Qem (above) for that issue. It's mostly that there's no way to simply make it not show up. One way or another, Apple mail is determined to let me know it's there, even when it's diverted to the trash. Le sigh.
