I've done that. 'Cept (for whatever reason, which could always be pebkap) when I divert the email directly into the trash, it won't mark it as read, first. So it continues to show up in my alerts on my dock, and I open email, only to find it's in the trash. If I want to get rid of the alert, I still have to open the trash folder, mark as read, and close again. So it's like there's no way to make it simply unobtrusive. If there were a way to do that, then I wouldn't care.

Although this could be the universe pointing out that it's time to change my email address. I try to do it at least once every year or two, but for some reason I've kept this one for almost five years. Laziness, I suppose.
