Per this brilliance from facetofcathy and especially this comment thread at the bottom, I have to ask: has anyone done a list of the authorial versions of derailing when it comes to fanfick and fanficken? As in, "some of my best friends write fanfic" and "the removal of fair use as a defensible argument hurts you, but what about my pain?" kind of rhetoricals. Anyone?

Generally, whenever I hear someone use any variant of the "I have friends who are..." line, I think of Sam Vimes when turning down a bribe of jewelry. "That's nice. Everyone should have nice things."

OT, but seeing 'fanfic' spelt with a 'k' stuck on ... uhm. German has an 'i' where English has a 'u' in 'fuck'.

Yep, that's the same comment made to the original post, that there was a double-meaning completely missed by English-speaking audience. A'course, that appears to have added to the delight, in terms of a twisted kind of turnaround. Though my question was whether 'fanficken' would therefore be the plural form?

And yes, a rather appropriate term, at times. As long as non-German-speakers keep in mind that German-speaking members of the audience may flinch. Heh.

That'd be the verb. :D As in, "Ich will einen Fan ficken" = I want to fuck a fan." (Not the electric kind, that's a different word entirely).

Bwahahahaha. Okay, that's almost as funny, but for entirely different reasons. (I presume German is like French and not English, in having one verb that means "to mess you up" and another that is specifically related to the sexual act?)

Mh-hm. :) You do occasionally hear things like "Das Leben fickt mich jeden Tag" (Life fucks me over every day), but in general, the sexual connotation is the first to come to mind.

Incidentally,
noun: -r Fick, m., plural -s
verb: ficken, ge-. Needs a direct object unless used as an
emphatic expression: ficken! This is much rarer than the use of good, old-fashioned English "fuck!", though, possibly because "fuck" doesn't have the same f-bomb qualities in German that it has in (particularly Northern American) English.

And you hear "abgefuckt" (sometimes spelt "abgefackt"), "fucked-up", quite a lot.
