"a multifandom tribute to female characters" ... now if only I knew who all of them were! (see cut)
h/t: [personal profile] shiegra

What ARE these? I'm missing like half! Or more! I put it in italics if I (or the person who suggested) the ID isn't absolutely postive; other in italics is reference to what's in the scene, since the time-stamp isn't always exactly perfect, so instead just identify via what's happening).

Through much persistence and a bit of guesswork and some skillful digging, all segments have been identified. Many many thanks to all who helped!

At 0.51, I see Dayna, from Blakes 7.

0.54 doesn't look like Ivanova to me, but I could be wrong; it's definitely her after the BSG woman, though, at 0.58.

1.01 is, I think, Starbuck.

1.04 is Ivanova.

1.35 is Servalan from Blakes 7. 1.58 is Jenna from Blakes 7. 2.02 is Cally from Blakes 7. (That show really did have fantastic female characters.)

2.37 looks like Rogue, yes.

2.53 could be Romana 1. She's definitely a Dr Who companion.

3.22 could be Elizabeth from PoC. I haven't seen that movie, but the actress looks right.

I'm happy to have been reminded just how good Blakes 7 was on this front.

Women with motives that weren't their love lives (revenge, money, nothing else to do, continuing with their normal profession). Women in plural as part of a team. Women who were better at fighting than men but weren't superpowered (unless you count the psychic alien, but even she was a good hand-to-hand fighter) or teenaged (i.e., they were actually somewhat plausible).

The clothes were pretty cool too. Often sexy, but more cool boots than high heels and frequently less cleavage than the men's.

I see you're doing surnames. Two of the Blakes 7 ones have them. Jenna Stanis and Dayna Mellanby. Also, I apparently can't spell Dayna. I think I said Dana.

Stannis, not Stanis, too. Not my day.

NB Servalan, by the time she was wearing red, may not have been Supreme Commander any more. I think she was using the Commissioner Sleer identity by then. She was never just a commander either way.

She was still Servalan in that clip - it's from "Gambit" in season 2.

Actually, Bellatrix is the one in 0:36-- all in black, wand poised, crazed look. Not sure about the red cloak girl. I've seen her somewhere, but I don't know where... oh, this is frustrating! But fun. :)

2.31 doesn't look like Blakes 7 to me. It could be, but I was guessing Dr Who.

I know what you mean.

The clothes look rather more Dr Who and less B7 to me (the B7 costumers had a *lot* of fun), and I don't recognise the characters, which seems more likely for the former, since there's plenty of 70's and 80's Dr Who I have never seen (despite having loved the show back then), and I've seen all of B7 at least twice.

in
2:25, Martha Jones hugging Donna Noble, Doctor Who
2:34 is Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter
2:41 is DI Alex Drake, Ashes To Ashes

Woman in 3:06 is the daughter of the Romulan Ambassador who succeeds him-- STVI, The Undiscovered Country. Blanking on the name atm.

3:07 Harriet Jones, DW (I think)
3:15 Ana Maria (I think), Pirates of the Caribbean

Sarah Jane is not the first, but one of the most important assistants. She travelled with the fifth (? I think) Doctor originally, met the tenth in an EPIC episode in the second "New Who" series, and got her own spin-off-- the Sarah Jane Adventures. Pretty brilliant. :D

... annnnd that's all I have to add for now. :)

Girl with magnifying glass (1:25) -- Rani Chandra, The Sarah Jane Adventures
1:48 is Gwen Cooper, Torchwood, while
1:51 (on phone) might be Tish Jones (Martha's sister) from DW, but I'm not at all sure.

Bed time now, more (maybe) tomorrow. :)

1:48 meaning "Woman on phone after shot of Gwen on phone", but -- Lois. Whoops. RIGHT. I didn't finish Children of Earth and blanked out all I'd seen pretty soon ...

Also, Azetbur: KLINGON. Not Romulan ... obviously. *facepalm*

The red cloak girl and the tissue scene are driving me up the wall. I KNOW these. I do.

Doctor Who is, btw, entirely worth a shot. Just don't let the living plastic in episode one of the Chris Eccleston arc scare you off, it's a typical case of Pilot Gone Wrong.

3.15 is Captain Anamaria. You know the ship that Jack sails/sinks at the dock in the beginning of "Curse of the Black Pearl"? He stole it from Anamaria, so she comes along on the adventure to make Jack repay her with a ship. I think she ends up captain of the Interceptor at the end of the first movie. So no, she's not Jack's crew, really.

2.57 is Kee from the movie "Children of Men". I love that movie so much; I think it beats the book by miles.

I think the mermaids are from one of the Harry Potter movies.

At 0.55 - that's probably Sharon "Athena" Agathon. I say probably because it might be Boomer. But I think that bit is from later in the series.

Blue lips at 1.46 is Calypso from PoTC. I think the free-falling one at 1.37 is Jean Gray.

2.34 Harry Potter is Luna Lovegood.

I think the woman holding the baby at 2.57 is from Children of Men.

3.12 is the Romulan commander from "The Enterprise Incident".

3.15 is Anamaria from PoTC

Ok, Here's my take on some of this (and this is one of my favorite songs!)

.06 Is this an early Sarah Connor?
.31 Yes, Dr Who (9th?)
1.10 Also Aeryn Sun
1.14 Dr Who again - 3rd Dr's asst
1.27 BSG yes
1.41 Dr Who - I think either 1st or 2nd
2.26 Makes me think Deep Space 9
2.31 And Dr Who once again

All in all, WONDERFUL! And truly kind of scary that so many of our 'powerful' women figures are either mythical or science fiction. It's too bad that more aren't 'now'...

Yeah, I know, and I never have gotten all of the early ones straight... But there's enough repeats of the Doctor that I've gotten to the point that I almost recognize the scenery before I know who the person is! Which would be why I can pick out the Dr stuff almost before anything else...

Ah, and from the husband (who was very impressed by the whole thing!) that he thinks at 1.36 is Kate Breckinsdale from Underworld. Not sure which movie but...

I'm pretty sure that the woman dodging things at 0:42 was from the SciFi channel miniseries of Dune. She was the hero's sister, if I recall correctly; IMDB says that would be Alia Atreides.

Date: 9 Feb 2010 07:46 pm (UTC)

Those mermaids aren't from Harry Potter, they're from Chronicles of Narnia, first movie.

And .48 isn't Morgana--that's Kahlan Amnell from Legend of the Seeker. .49, however, with white tank top, is Morgana.

Date: 13 Feb 2010 08:54 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
1.41 isn't Jo Grant - I think it's Abby Grant from "Survivors" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivors). Jo Grant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo_Grant) looks a bit different.
