email alerts issue

Has anyone else missed and/or not gotten DW comment alerts in email? I realized I was getting msgs only sporadically, and then they stopped altogether somewhere around early November. I've gotten notifies of replies on other journals, though, but that only since early December. Since then, nothing, and I can tell I've gotten comments because I've seen them here. Just no emails. I checked my settings and whatnot, so I'm stumped. Anyone else having this issue, or is it just me (again)?

Figured it out. Somehow my settings were changed so I had to opt in on getting email. That's not the kind of thing I would've turned off, so I'm guessing there was an upgrade and that flag got switched. Who knows, but we'll see now if I suddenly start getting emails again.

ETA2: ahahah shoot me it works now. yay! thanks for the help, everyone. (I figured out that while I'd changed the email... I hadn't confirmed it. Once I did that, now I am back to regularly scheduled emails. It's been that kind of a day, really.)

I haven't noticed any problems. Try changing to a secondary email and see what happens?

My care2 email started blocking lj automatically when they got a large number of emails ina short time frame and there was no alert.

Ironically enough, to change my email meant remembering my password... which I couldn't. So I requested a password reset, and lo and behold, I got the email alert just fine from DW. Didn't get an alert for your comment, but I sure got the reset alert. Figures.

Anyway, email is changed, and we'll see what that does. Thanks!

It could be one of the DW mail servers has been blacklisted? Or the comments are setting off a different filter to the password reset one.

Hrm, no idea. Trying a completely different host for email, this time.

well, for starters... it worked!

while I'm not crazy about everything going through gmail (not happy with google and its email-for-everyone schemes right now), it's still better than missing everything.

Who is your current host with? If you don't mind me asking. Depending on who it is I might have some whitelisting ideas.

Also I'd recommend lodging a support ticket with DW as they would have better ideas about the specifics etc.

I'll do that. Current host is 1and1, whom I've had for more than 7 years, and I'd give up getting email from DW before I'd switch. I wonder what'd happen if I switch to a different domain on the same host, though (as opposed to whole 'nother host/domain altogether). Hrm.

I don't think switching domain names is going to help but I think I might know what it is - comments.dreamwidth.org might be causing the problem which would explain why you get the password resets but not the comments? (the reply to address has changed to allow us to reply to comments via email and that might be where the problem is coming in.)

(additionally it's also possible to set up a rule in gmail so that everything from dreamwidth is automatically forwarded to your personal address.

Followed the instructions (and had to remember yet another long-time-set password, I should really change that and in the meantime thank goodness for keychain), then changed email back again and now we test. Again. Wow, it's almost like being at work. (What am I saying? I have been at work, just at home -- 10 hours yesterday, 11 today, someone shoot me now.)

I've got gmail already set up to direct to my home inbox. It's just it still piles up in the gmail box, and I prefer to have at least one email that can't be skimmed quite so easily for ways to advertise to me.

user error. turns out I hadn't confirmed the email address after changing it. once I did, I replied as anon, and there it showed up. so YES it worked, it just took me a bit. Blah, brainded.

Also - I hear you on the gmail! Just I haven't worked out a webmail interface that works as well for me with the threading etc and other features. /o\ googledocs, google calendar etc have all become really incorporated into my online usage and it's difficult to find an alternative for general group projects without building it myself / paying for the service.
