Racy Li tagged me to do a thirteen for thursday of books on my to-read list, and yes, I know it's Monday, but I'm only now recovered. Sort of. *still dead* So, in no particular order:
And now, for
sihaya_chan's meme.
Rule of the game: Once you've been tagged, go to your journal and type in the subject for Tagged. Tell who has tagged you and then write down the rules. (CTRL + C) Then, tell 6 things about yourself, could be anything [habits/likes/dislikes/etc]. At the end, write who you will tag next. Finally, when you'll tag someone's journal, leave a link for them to return to your "Tagged" entry. Remember not to tag the person who has tagged you in the first place.
It's a little late, so you have until thursday to do the thirteen-for-thursday:
tharain,
koyote19,
maldoror_gw,
pixiepilot,
winner_q.
And the five to do the six things?
_branch_,
difrancis,
kythiaranos,
ravensilver,
written_in_blue. Have at it!
- Path of Blood, Diana Pharaoh Francis... almost done with the series, and she's bloody well not finished the first in her next series, HELLO HURRY UP WOMAN. hehehe
- Death Masks, Jim Butcher. Fifth book in the Dresden series.
- Lust: or No Harm Done, Geoff Ryman. About a young man who discovers he can think something, and that alone makes it happen, and proceeds to go on wild sexual adventures with everyone from Picasso to Billie Holliday to the trainer at his gym.
- Luck in the Shadows, Lynn Flewelling. First in a series, about two young men. Again, not my genre but I do enjoy anything that has political intrigue stamped on it.
- Heavy Traffic : 30 Years of Headlines and Major Ops From the Case Files of the DEA, David Robbins. More research.
- Fool's Errand, Louis Bayard. About a young man looking for love in DC, and reportedly has all sorts of DC tweaks and injokes, and is charmingly written as well. So, we'll see.
- Goblin Quest, Jim C. Hines. A reverse-book, where the more-likely-to-be-sidekick (if not bad guy) is the hero, Jig, a goblin. Thus, must read.
- Course of the Heart, John Harrison. Got this one free at WFC but it looks good, just need to be in the mindset for it. Magical realism or fantastical literature or literary fantasy, somewhere between those.
- The Art of Arrow Cutting : A Novel of Magic-Noir Suspense, Stephen Dedman. I think someone recommended this to me.
- Spotted in France: A Dog's Life . . . On the Road, Gregory Edmont. My dad read this and insisted I get a copy and read it myself. (We used to have a dalmatian, so that adds an extra woo! to the storyline of a young man travelling through France with his dalmatian.)
- The Brass Wall : The Betrayal of Undercover Detective #4126, David Kocieniewski. Well, it's sort of research. Kind of.
- Chinese Dragons, Roy Bates. Folklore, legends, etc.
- The Shapechanger's Wife, Sharon Shinn. This has actually been waiting to be read for...five months now. Hmm. Is it still legit to include it?
And now, for

- Once I've gotten used to a computer, I have a hard time hiding how upset I get when someone else sits down at my keyboard. At work, I get equally upset if a sys-admin comes by to change things and put things in certain places for me, without letting me put things just so. Even if I would've put them in the same place, I have to do it myself. It's a strange ownership thing, like the computer's presentation is my turf or virtual/mental office space. I don't actually get upset per se, just quite tense, and I'll be cranky about it until I've had a chance to set things Just So.
- When travelling, I keep the "do not disturb" sign on the door the entire time I'm at the hotel. It's not just because I don't want anyone coming in/out and stealing stuff (though there is that) but because I'd feel odd knowing someone's seen how I arrange things in my own space. Besides, if the travel's for business, I need a place where no one else intrudes, and I can delude/pretend it's my haven, for at least that space of time.
- I can't imagine life without two dogs in the house.
- I have an almost pathological inability to see dirt on a microscopic level. People who ever have reason to say to me, "that's dirty," are likely to get a blank look from me. I do, however, note clutter, but I'm in a constant battle against it. And I'm constantly losing, too, it seems. Sigh. This is the great failing of my daily existence; I do my best to avoid organizational stores/websites for that reason. I'd probably end up spending all my money there, and the organization stuff would just end up being more clutter. Of course.
- All my adult life I've wanted smaller feet, smaller thighs, smaller nose, and straight teeth. I've finally come to the realization/decision that the last in the list is perhaps not only the most likely but the only 'likely' on the list, and that this is okay.
- I drink one brand of earl gray tea, decaf, and I take it with me everywhere because I will not drink any other brand (though I will drink the caf-version if it's all there is). In the same vein, I'll drive ten miles out of my way for a particular type of soda fountain soda, or a particular type of chocolate, and not care about the time wasted so long as I got what I wanted.
