The new washer/dryer (LG) plays a little midi-ditty when a cycle's done, and I swear the hobbit's learned that sound. He'll lurk by the garage door until you go fetch the laundry, then follow you into the bedroom. The laundry is usually dumped onto the bed for easier sorting -- well, that's the theory, seeing how then I go off and do something else -- and then I return to find he's claimed it ALL. It's like, King of the Laundry. But with extra purring.
Yeah, he's pretty adorable. He didn't write the book on cute (Baka did), but we're pretty sure Zaizai ate it. (There's a reason we call him the hobbit.)
I think they're all cloned, except that Fiero's personality was more like a dark tabby hiding in the body of an orange tabby. Zaizai's more the classic orange tabby I've come to know: big-boned, adorable, a little standoffish at first but everybody's friend once he warms up, and absolutely totally into everything. Twice.
We don't even use fabric softener! (Water's not hard enough, around here, so I never bother.)
I think it's mostly that the hobbit is (unlike nearly everyone else in the house) very much the antithesis of change-adverse. The immediate instant there's a change, he absolutely must be in the middle of it. I move the water dish a foot to the side to mop the floor, and he's right there, instantly, taking a drink just to see if the water tastes different now that it's in a different place. I put out drop-cloths over the dining room table while painting -- Balto heads outside, Sachi hides in the bedroom, and Zaizai is already under the drop-cloth and purring loudly at the discovery of a new tent. The boy simply likes to investigate anything and everything that's happening.
No, in this house, laundry that looks at you is laundry that's fresh out of the dryer and probably still cozily warm. It'll stop looking once it's cooled down, which is great if you ask me, because it's justification for procrastination. It's watching me! Not cooled down enough yet. Will check back later!
