It is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to code ANYTHING when there is a KITTEN who is DETERMINED to EAT your SCREEN.

No, seriously. He keeps climbing up in my way and licking the screen. I don't get it. Sometimes he chases the mouse, but whatever he's doing, he manages to stick his tail right in my face at the same time. Plus he's like one of those rodents in the whack-a-mole game. You shove him out of the way, and he pops right back in place again... and his purr just gets louder each time. I think he's having fun. Well, at least one of us at this desk is, then.

What I do when mine is doing that is get the other kind of mouse (the stuffed fuzzy kind) and throw it for him. He loves chasing it and even has figured out that if he brings it back I'll throw it again.

I share your animal-induced inconvenience. Since the earthquake I've had the computer on a coffee table where I can kneel at it, which puts it at just the right height for the dog to jump on to the keyboard, which he does whenever he feels I am failing to pay him enough attention. I have given up being baffled at the key combinations he manages to produce.

No screen-licking, tho'. Does he lick the same place?

Because clearly the tiny rubber chicken, felt mouse with no tail (or much of anything else besides a body), miniature toy skunk (!), felt moose stolen from Sachi, 27 paper balls, and odd bits of string, leaves, & stolen morsels of dog food, are Not Enough.

I read once that the butt-in-the-face thing is because all loving cat mommies lick baby's butt. It's cleaning but it's also soothing. So hop to it, LOL!

My cat Chili also licks smooth things. Dunno why. The bathtub and/or shower curtain are particular favorites.

Rurounitriv seems to have it right -- distraction is the better part of valor. Good luck! Yes, I'm laughing.

*rueful* Yeah, Atalanta is like that too. With bonus "innocent stretching out" that just happens to knock over the speakers and anything else in reach. Cats. A squirt of water in the whiskers does generally move her, though not for good.

I get Sophie butt in my face often. And Whisper, who is way too big for it these days, still sits on my shoulder. And then turns and sits on my ear. Sophie likes to chase the cursor. They both find jewelry making very interesting. Which makes it much more interesting for me, too, chasing back the beads they keep trying to chase away. And the ability to pop right back up on the table after being removed and dropped is amazing.
