1. You are not allowed to chase spiders that are LARGER THAN YOUR HEAD. I'm looking at you, littlest demon.

2. I don't care that you can lay down in the hallway and stretch far enough that your front paws touch one wall and your back paws touch the other wall and that this means you're thirty-seven-and-three-sixteenths long when fully extended. As long as you weigh less than 11lbs, you STILL must come in at night.

I keep telling myself that at least they're not tarantulas -- but really, it's the teeny spiders you have to watch out for. These guys are big, but they're nonaggressive, and while minorly poisonous, are mostly so busy trying to get away that they won't bite. I've narrowed them down to wolf spiders and huntsman spiders -- and still not sure why this summer we're getting so many of them. It might be due to the combination of a lot of rain early in the summer (way more than usual) and the intense heat we've had since then, but spider usually don't make an appearance unless they're thinking there's food to be found. Just wish I could figure out what their favorite food is, and then get rid of that.

Southwest. But fortunately, no tarantulas around here, which means (even more fortunately) no tarantula hawks -- because I'll take a whole passel of nonaggressive oversized minorly-poisonous hunter-spiders over a tarantula hawk, any day.

Thank you for your mercy, but it's too late! I already looked them up. They should name a military vehicle after those things. Apache helicopter? Not scary. Tarantula Hawk? That would make an impression. A screaming, frothing impression.

I like the description of them being 'hard to provoke but that's a good thing because their sting literally causes screaming agony for hours even after being given painkillers.' Fun. (Actually, I saw a lot more of these in Arizona than here in Texas.)

I had never heard of a tarantula hawk before, so I just ran a Google search and looked at some pictures.

I came across two huge spiders earlier this summer - one in the house and one outside. And my husband saw another huge one outside. I think they were wolf spiders. I'm hoping it's some kind of anomaly due to weird weather and not an indication of an actual increase in the spider population, or else I may have to move. @_@
