Date: 20 Jan 2005 06:43 pm (UTC)Another layer that comes to mind, re the France-fascination thing: that OZ under Treize has some extremely Napoleonic aspects. The uniforms, for one, but more than that, the aspect of promotion and even ennoblement based on skill rather than blood. Also Treize's own charisma, and his exile/imprisonment. Considering that Napoleon was the central unifier (or tyrant, by other lights) who came out of a period of chaos, rebellion and deadly class warfare, this would seem to tie into both Relena-as-France, and Trowa-as-lower-classes. It adds something to the way Treize seems to like Relena's militancy. And then, Trowa is the one who manages to infiltrate OZ reliably, they recognize him as one of their own.
And I never even thought of the Lawrence connection, but it makes so very much sense now you point it out.
