kaigou: this is what I do, darling (evil)
[personal profile] kaigou
so I'm reviewing my list of chores:

1. do the damn dishes
2. badger the recruiter
3. put away clean laundry

and I get an email from my mother about my trip to Grand Forks, ND, with a few stopovers to see the world's biggest ball of twine, the world's largest talking metal cow, the world's largest van gogh easel, and the world's largest concrete prairie dog. She says, "would you take your sister with you, part of the way?"

I write back. "What do you mean? Like, take her as far as Chicago and leave her there?"

Mom's response: "Yep."

I told her, "if Klho makes her way home again, that means ya gotta keep her."

No response from Mom yet. I think she might be sulking.

Heh.

If you mean an email list? No. I don't. I just comment sometimes on the LJ about when I've posted on the GWA BBS, is all, along with updates of what I'm working on and what's in the list for upcoming priorities.

If you're between a line drawn from Denver CO through Goodland KS to Cawker City KS to Edgerton KS to St. Louis MO, then there's always meeting for lunch. Cause I'm gonna need something to break the endless rows of corn, eh?

I friended you, hope you don't mind??

I'm jealous. I want a long road trip. I did a Georgia to South Daktoa via New Mexico the year after I graduated high school and it pretty much rocked. (The Black Hills are beautiful. The Bad Lands are... bad). Can you post pictures when you get back? I'm jonesing to see that stack of empty oil cans... ^_^

Go right ahead. Friend away. Or something.

My 'beach week' after graduation was a trip to Vermont, which did rock, to no end, but it sure wasn't a trip cross-country. I had a number of friends who did it, and this is the second time I've chosen someone significant in my life who's managed to cover every state (including Hawaii and Alaska) and quite frankly I AM FED UP. So. My turn.

I will most likely be taking the Canon, and not the digital, which means I'll be doing predominantly b/w - it travels better. That's a bitch to scan the negs, though. Doubtful I'll post anything - the Canon, after all, doesn't have to have a battery charge on a regular basis. I can just buy more in the next large city. Hmph. Might take the Ansco, though, because if you're going to be photographing roadside attractions that are sixty years old, why not do it with a camera that's eighty years old?

Heheh.

Perhaps she could become another roadside attraction in her own right. "Snake rodeo and starving artist, 200 yards ahead."

We'd still be paying her bills, though.

I notice you haven't "friended" me. I'm trying not to take it personally.

Anyone want to go to Japan with me next Fall? Habibti?

What a rare thing to get one over the Mom. Congratulations. Children everywhere salute you. There will be a roadside attraction built for you in NoVa in remembrance of the occasion and others will flock to it, just like every other cheap, kitschy attraction that lines the roadsides of America.

Actually, on my roadtrip I avoided most roadside attractions and hit the national parks and monuments etc. But I consider it a good thing to give a roadtrip some thematic structure. Friends of mine drove from DC to Seattle (more of those people who never stay in DC) and the theme of their trip was roadkill. They photographed every bit of roadkill they came across and I got the pleasure of seeing it when I visited. It was bizarre (and very funny, I hate to admit) but it's a great way of making an experience your own.

I am doing architecture, geology, and kitsch. Figure if I did all architecture of the Important Historic Kind, I'd burn out by Michigan, and who'd want that to happen? Besides, in a hundred years, just maybe someone will recognize the value of such oddities as Hole In The Wall House or the gas station carved into solid rock or the giant concrete prairie dog. Too bad I'm going to miss the fifty-foot long restaurant shaped like a fish, though. That would be a cool place to stop for lunch, just for the story-telling aspect.

Roadkill, though. Uh. Hm. I think I'll stick with roadsigns.

Whee! Grand Forks!

The only city ever to burn down and flood at the _same_ time! *Amused* I hear there's a pretty good Japanese place there, though I could not tell you where. I usually only drive through on my way to Winnipeg. Have fun though!

It looks like there's a lot there, even if it's all buried under snow and freezing for 10 months out of the year... heh.

*huddles up in the Great White North with all the other crazy people* If you're really lucky, maybe it'll snow while you drive up through here. >=D *cackles evilly and prepares to summon the snow gods*
