Watching Macross, and maybe someone can explain to me just wtf deculture is supposed to mean. I can't help but see the latin buried in there and think, un-culture in the sense of undo, like destruction or deconstruction. Okay, when I'm not having sudden flashbacks to a entire club of happy queens shouting in unison the phrase, "it's deeeeelightful, it's deeeelicious, it's deeeelovely...!"

Anyone?

it a reference bastardization of proto-culture from the original macross series/movies

in the continuity of macross an elder race seeded the galaxy before vanishing, this proto culture or first civilization made the zentradi race.

The human act of singing evokes such a control response in zentradi that they act as if their creators have returned.

at least thats my take on it.

im sure theres more accurate info on various wikis out there.

According to Dictionary.com (yes, take it for what it's worth), "deculture: to deculturate", which wasn't very helpful, but led me to "deculturate: to cause the loss or abandonment of culture or cultural characteristics of (a people, society, etc.)". Other definitions I came across for deculturate was "cause a person or group to abandon its culture or customs."

I would take it as, for example, the word to describe what was done to aboriginal societies in the US, Canada, Australia, and elsewhere when children of the cultures were deliberately removed and raised with the customs and religion of the dominant culture.

whois
