The last page is literally incomplete because I hit what I think may be HK slang and need some time to puzzle it out -- but no reason to make anyone else wait in the meantime, right, and too, I'm hoping someone could give me some insight.
Script is below if you can figure it out -- I was getting stumped at the first four or five lines in particular. Thanks in advance if you do have any ideas.

That's right. A member of DP told me to stop translating. Second link has the details if you've got a morbid curiosity about those things.

That's copied straight from my notes, and your guess is -- at this point -- probably as good as mine when it comes to 20% being on the page and the other 80% being implied. I love Chinese for many reasons, but man.
The Leo fusses sometimes about Japanese grammar -- plain form, formal form, informal form, and I still don't know what a "plain form" is -- while I sit here all smug and say, gee, you could've studied Mandarin and save yourself all this hell. Verb tense? Declension my ass, baby. Past tense? I got yer 了 right here. And then I actually read chinese, and I think: crap, this is one freaking telegraphic language, and it doesn't help that in speaking the tones restrict you from giving clues by pitch or emphasis. It's all context. Some of those sentences, there's easily three or more ways to read it. Which is right? I have no idea. (I used to. Maybe it'll come back to me. Hopefully before my head explodes.)
Sometimes I think I should've studied something easier, instead. Like Navajo.

Date: 9 Jun 2008 05:20 am (UTC)Anyway, my Chinese isn't that great but I thought I could try helping you with your translating and studying of the language for these parts:
Your typo "休想" is actually "休息" which means rest :)
"很有 精神" probably literally means "full of spirit", implying that he looks healthy/okay/well.
"所以 在我死 之 前" is said by Kichou, who continues saying "我們來玩3P吧". 3P means "3 Person [orgy]" XDDD, so he basically means, "So before I die, let's have a 3P"
Hope I helped! Thanks for sharing your scans!

Date: 9 Jun 2008 05:22 am (UTC)I think I've been exposed to too many brits: I kept thinking, 3 pence? What do pence have to do with anything!?
(Although I did get the gist of him suggesting a 3-way, I didn't realize it was that blatant!)
thank you!!
-- yeah, as for the other post... I get my amusement in strange places sometimes, but I try to always find the snark in it. Erm, the humor, I mean.
thank you again for the help! ;D

Date: 9 Jun 2008 09:07 am (UTC)Plain form is the same as informal. In terms of verbs...its also called the dictionary form...
I love Japanese but sometimes their grammar makes me cry >:

3p means 3 pax means threesome. It's more of a taiwanese slang. I suppose the one who translates this series to chinese is a taiwanese since they uses mostly traditional chinese. Hehehe....

Date: 10 Jun 2008 12:03 am (UTC)But again with the total-telegraphic element of Chinese: seems to me that although 店裹 is pretty clear, it's still sort of makes-no-sense without a whole lot of context.
thanks! taking a break from work-project and figure I'll do a page or two more. ;-)
Hey!
Date: 9 Jun 2008 03:51 pm (UTC)Enough about that, in the previous post you mentioned you would like to see my version of the chapter? well, I will tell you this: If you say you are bad then I'm 10 times worse. I find myself guessing a lot and I very often get the "WTF reaction" (do you know it?) but still, I manage to more or less get the idea and, even though I make mistakes, I think as you do, it's better than nothing.
Then, since I translate for myself and I'm very slow, I translate the same way I eat (I do the parts where I think the conversations are more interesting and I leave what seems to be more boring for later). This results in a lot of untranslated parts haha. I have the whole chapter 4 v2 done (because it looked like it had important info), now I'm finishing the conversation Iwasaki sama has with Kagerou, I wanted to move to either the conversation Touin sama has with Kagerou in chapter 5 or the part when Kagerou and Kichou talk also in chapter 5. But I have parts translated from other chapters, So feel free to ask if I have some particular sentence (even if it's just for a second opinion). Should I send you my email address or you give me yours? Or just let me know how I could send you the script.
Well, I hope you are doing fine, Take care :)

Date: 10 Jun 2008 12:06 am (UTC)But I think on the next pages I put out, I'll include more notes at bottom about where I hit confusing points and possible alternate readings. I know sometimes there are combinations I miss that have a meaning of their own different from when you consider the two characters independently. And for that matter, I think I'll also include the script as the last few pages... then if you see errors that don't match with your version, let me know! (That might be easier, you think, then you can take a look at your convenience?)

Date: 9 Jun 2008 06:58 pm (UTC)But anyway, I think there's a bit of a conflict here *scratch head*...This one you're doing is Volume 2, Chapter 1, correct? See, somebody uploaded another "Volume 2, Chapter 1" here (http://community.livejournal.com/yshare/471681.html#cutid1) which she labels as "v2ch5"--"chapter 5", which I take as being a continuation of chapter 4 in the previous volume. The chapters aren't the same. I'm confused @.@ Please help? ^^;;

Date: 9 Jun 2008 07:25 pm (UTC)vol1 already released in english by DP
vol2 is out in CHINESE through ch4 (and the post you listed is the newest, ch5)
I'm using the chinese chapters in vol2 to practice, while we all wait for DP to be able to get the entire volume in Japanese, scan nicely, and tell us what it all REALLY says. ;-)
so basically, what I've got is... well, might be close, but at least it's enough to give a gist of things? ;-)

Date: 9 Jun 2008 07:36 pm (UTC)LOL Do they change the meaning of the dialogue when they translate the Japanese into Chinese?
Nevertheless, your releases are great! Very clean and crisp. The dialogue isn't bad either--matter of fact, I like how they retain a little "formality"--like British vs. English. "Unhand me!" is soooo rare these days; you could have just said "Let go of me!" or something like such. Great job!

Date: 9 Jun 2008 07:40 pm (UTC)I really don't know if they change the meaning going from Japanese to Chinese... I don't know Japanese! (And the raws aren't available anywhere, from what I hear.)
Ehehe, with "unhand me", I did almost go with "let go" because that's the American version... but the literal phrase (in chinese) is something like not-hold (by hand) or not-grasp, so "unhand me" seemed a better fit. ;-)
I think with the next bit I do, I may put in notes at the bottom that are more specific when I'm not sure how to translate, since this seems to be a version that a lot of other chinese-student-types might also have input on. ;-)

Date: 10 Jun 2008 02:22 am (UTC)Odd..it's a Japanese manga, but nobody bothered to scan the Japanese raws. Hm.
Definitely a better fit! Y'know, I really think the English language has become so "informal"...so impersonal. Try watching TV nowadays and it's almost a painful skip from eloquence to street. T_T
It's always good to have footnotes :3
