CP's curious as to what one (english-translation) Jorge Luis Borges work anyone might recommend. I know some of you folks are all over the map in terms of reading, so someone on this list's gotta have an idea or two.

For a single work, the short story "The Aleph," I think. But that's a very short story, so you might want to look for a translation of Ficciones, usually called Collected Fictions in English. I like di Giovanni's translations better than Hurley's -- they're more elegant.

Two stories for certain: The Garden of Forking Paths, and Tlon Uqbar Orbus Tertius

I always liked those two.

"Death and the Compass"
Detective fiction involving mathematics, kabbala, philosophical paradox, and wordplay.
There's a movie based on it that I've never seen.
