I was halfway between deeply disturbed and laughing my ass off so hard I was -- seriously -- crying. Not that I was alone (backstage, that is, where I had been occupied doing prep with the team) -- the entire backstage group, all 100 or so of us, were just in tears. They didn't win anything, sadly, but they sure brought the house down.

(Not just then, but for the rest of the con... we'd be walking around and randomly hear a group of fanboys off in the distance all yelling, "Let GO, let GO, I MUST have my REVENGE" in that deadpan way. FYI: the voiceovers were purposefully done to sound like Really Bad Dubbing, and boy did they succeed.)

Actually I seem to recall Sihaya forgetting she was dressed as Sasuke and inadvertently slipping into Wufei-isms for a few. She does an awesome elderly Wufei. Unfortunately, the better her Wufei, the worse my Heero, because I can't keep a straight face once she gets going.

It remains my ultimate standby to watch whenever I'm feeling really down. You just can't watch something like that and not ending grinning. ;-)

Ah well, it's not like anyone knows I was involved in any way. ^_^;;;

I'd say the fact that a) most people weren't entirely sure who had won (or why) and b) the fact that 90% of the rest of the weekend I could hear at least once an hour, "Let GO let GO I must have my REVENGE"... pretty much means the group DID win.

In all the ways that really count.

Believe me, I avoid it whenever possible. Duo gets that look, and I've learned to become scarce. I'm not getting roped into no ninja dancing crap, that's for sure!

hahhahha that is something new and it made me laugh though i don't think i found it as funny as most people who really really gets it XDDD; it's awesome to see what you people do over at the cons overseas cause we don't do crack things like that in Japan =( cause no one would be doing Irish dances i would think LOL.

what did he say after "let go, let go"? Didn't hear that last part before everyone laughed.

From: [identity profile] kaigou.livejournal.com
On a more serious note, I think the reason it was so incredibly popular with the audience (and got so many comments later) was because it was accessible in a general way. Everything was right there, even if you didn't know the story: I mean, first character comes on with a fighting stance. Second character calls him "foolish little brother" -- so immediately you can say, okay, I get the general idea. Add in Cartoon Network's known proclivity for removing even "damn", "god", and "death" from cartoons, let alone digitally removing blood, and it's pretty much a notion any US audience can grok.

Plus, it seems the American cons are all about being as utterly cracktastic as possible. The bigger a laugh, the wittier a concept, the better.

The final cry is "let go, let go, I must have my revenge". The version I have has the opening MC announcement and a slightly better sound pick-up on the vocals, but it doesn't have the MC's rather startled summary at the end. (The backstage camera cut to him as soon as XianPu was offstage, and he spent a good ten seconds struggling to compose himself even to even make a comment -- score!)

Hahaha, it's okay, I know you have absolutely no idea what the whole thing is about -- all you really need to know is that the one dancing in circles around Sasuke/Sihaya is Duo.

Which, come to think of it, you're probably the only one on my flist (that I know of) who can tell none of those folks have the least idea about irish dancing... but I did find them collected around Duo's CD, studying some of the moves. That should've been a warning, y'know? ...hehehe.

Well, the whole concept of ninjas doing irish step dancing is funny enough on its own that the viewer doesn't really need to know anything about anime... and there's enough of anime creeping into American culture that the bad dubbing jokes make sense too :)

whois
