Check on DKos. There was a post that explained a lot of the terminology, and a follow-up one just yesterday that explained the whole Supreme Court's current/latest standing on the Second Amendment and some of what the current interpretation means for possible control/regulation. Comments are also pretty good on both.
The first DKos post is about guns and ammunition*, and I definitely recommend it. If you've chosen a side to be on, it's still wise to educate yourself, so you can make sure that when politicians (who frequently don't know much better, themselves, being ones who just listen to the lobbyists) promise you something, you'll know whether it's actually a realistic promise or one that will even do anything. (Frex, when I found out what the "assault rifle ban" actually covered, I just about laughed myself silly because it was the stupidest law ever. It'd be like trying to stop bullying by telling people what they're allowed to put on their t-shirts.)
Anyway, it's not a problem to knee-jerk. But you might find it good to have an informed knee-jerk, as long as you're at it.
*I thought I'd been pretty thorough learning about guns for writing about them, but there was stuff in there I didn't know. I was all, ohrly, and CP's like, RLY RLY. O.O
