I don't - and wouldn't, for reason s that are probably beside the point - own guns, but I think we need to re-activate the "well-regulated" aspect of the 2nd amendment. To my mind, part of that might mean allowing the usual run of folks to buy guns, but with background checks and with exclusions, and not assault weapons or military ordnance, but: gun purchasers should be required to take/pass safety and marksmanship classes and to purchase liability insurance like they do for cars. And part of that policy should involve amortizing the costs of gun violence in this country - law enforcement, medical, funerals for 6 year olds, all of it. It's like cars: the cost of the insurance and the risk of dying get factored in. I'd like to see the real costs of gun ownership factored into the $$ cost of the gun, and into an ammo tax...
