Unlike usually, this story has actually spent several months in my head, so there's a lot that's been worked out and filled in. Now it's just a matter of seeing if this kind of long-term stewing really has any impact on the story or how it unravels.
I figured what-with the use of "it" to refer to a genderless creature, that there might be some question. Better to be explicit, but then, that explicit-ness will also have bearing on the story, later.
