Thanks, but NFPs are crazy enough as it is. Don't need to make them any worse! Can't say whether someone else might take you up on your offer, but me, I think something more like cooperatives are one way to go, to prevent selling-out or buy-outs. Or just make sure the company's started by someone absolutely determined never to sell out for a million dollars, but frankly, I'm not sure I could make that promise myself. I mean, a million dollars is really hard to turn down... so I'd rather build into the framework that buyouts aren't possible without member okay, hence cooperative.
That said, I wonder how AO3 is set up, given it's an NFP and it's an archive of user-generated content. Or do you mean something other than that, when you say "social network"?
