When I posted this, I was mostly thinking about getting around the age warnings on LJ/DW/AO3. I think that is the easier thing to focus, if the archiving is going to take place from the website end.

I know the archiving locked content is tricky to actually implement, and I know not a whole lot about it. However, if this is specifically aimed at fans, and originating with LJ/DW-based fans, I think it's an option worth putting up on a board somewhere and brainstorming about.

What about taking a different approach to accessing the content? Is there a way to let the user upload a copy of the link/file/website? Or somehow save it from the user's browser? That way you don't have to take responsibility for accessing other websites with appropriate credentials.
