As long as it's written and not told, then the cadence has to be very close. Watching some of the storytellers from Georgia, I can hear that they're not doing the repetition near as much as the original -- but their accents and delivery create a cadence and melody regardless, and that carries the stories forward. So perhaps the way to put it is that how we write it must differ from the spoken version, because the written version must compensate for the lack of accent by emphasis on word choice, grammar, and cadence. Hmmm.
