But isn't this trope available in most of action/fantasy type pieces of fiction? I don't see how it's unique to superhero comics or anime and manga. The cultural sexism that says women are no good in fights, are naturally weaker, more likely to be nurturing, can't handle power, not important enough for the main role, etc. is fairly wide-spread. And yes, it often doesn't make any sense, but that's because it relies on those sexist assumptions that are irrational in the first place. Unless the author makes a conscious effort, the work will usually fall back on those assumptions. As examples, both Claymore and Teppu are focused on women going through those shonen tropes.
