I think it's also a cousin to the cultural notion of creating art, or as CP likes to put it: "if you're so good [at your art], why aren't you poor?" ... because successful art by definition must be a sell-out, just as happy creativity must be a sell-out.

Autism and ADD/ADHD are classed in the same general group of cognitive disorders/disabilities, apparently. Though from a non-psychiatrist's point of view, it does sometimes seem as though this kind of classification really boils down to: "and this stuff comes from something in the brain -- which we're not really sure of, exactly -- and has certain behaviors -- which we're still not entirely sure of, seeing how most of our research has been on kids so most of our adult-based research (and long-term results) are still kinda iffy from being kid-centric -- and the rest of the stuff is kinda neurological and maybe behavioral and possibly environmental, so we're just gonna say it's, uhm, cognitive. And stuff."

Heh. Or maybe I'm just kinda cynical, sometimes. And stuff.
