Yeah, military/FSO are sort of their own culture, really. CP talks about attending British schools while a diplobrat, and then coming to the US and seeing all the kids running in the hall, absolute chaos -- compared to the Brit system where, apparently, you marched in line (and in uniform, of course) from class to class. Quietly! He was absolutely convinced, he's told me, that Americans could never possibly learn a thing in such a madhouse environment.
