kaigou: this is what I do, darling (4 aang can be asian)

It matters to *me* but whether it matters on a larger scale, and whether it matters as much as distinctions between various Asian races... who gets to decide these things?

well, since it's my damn survey, I get to decide!

okay, I decide with lots of help from the rest of you to make sure I'm not being a complete twit about it, but still. I don't like seeing a list of options and knowing that my best (or only) choice is to pick "the next closest" since I'm not in there at all -- I've been through that with various things that ask about religion, which assume Everyone Has Religion and thus I'm always picking "buddhist" since that's maybe the closest to the non-religion I practice. Well, except for the not-so-good-on-women part and the world-is-bad part, okay and the whole bit about self-denial, and... okay, but still, it's closer than, say, Catholicism. So like I said already, I get the whole "well, this matters to me but obviously -- sigh of slight depression at going through this again -- it doesn't matter to anyone else, so might as well just randomly pick something..."

So what do you think: use the map, instead, and phrase the question such that someone can either pick all the places they have ancestors (ie if your mother is Latino and your father is multiracial black-Filipino) and if you don't know that (eg family history specifics are lost) you can just pick "where the majority population looks the most like you"?
