Well, for that, Wiki can be a useful starting place. I don't dispute that at all, especially if you're lucky enough to be looking up a topic that has plenty of citations at the bottom that can lead you into deeper waters. However, wiki is not designed to be, and should not be, the entirety of one's research. Although the irony in that is that I recall finding plenty just within wikipedia that contradicted the story's details: that is, that even some truly rudimentary details in the story were so wrong that even the most cursory of research would've raised flags.
