Oh, yeah. I've heard of a variety of horror stories, mostly related to the music industry, but television is even worse in some ways. With very few exceptions, most of the people writing for, creating for, and having major creative input into, television series are never going to become household names, yet they were part of a product that most definitely has become a powerhouse. Then again, fans don't buy it when a band ditches half its members and carries on as though it's the same band -- or when one member "owns" the name and thus can tour under that name, leaving the others out in the cold. It's done, but most fans I've known have treated it like a joke: "it's just the original bassist from the band, and bunch of no-names, it's not really that band".
Very different from series creators and writers, who can be, and are treated as, completely expendable.
