I'd say Linkspam really threw the fat on the fire with that one (linking and then editorializing as derailing), but I'd also say that the reason Linkspam could even find it feasible in the first place -- knowing that their editorializing is (supposedly) based on a discussion amongst the various Linkspam-mods -- means that somewhere, at some point, the paradigm of debate has begun shifting towards this "we are all one big happy debate family" position.

Even if Linkspam removes all its warnings/editorializing, and simply groups posts by topic like Metafandom and Fandomnews and others of that ilk, the shift is still gaining speed, from seeing all posts as "concurrent" but separate, to seeing all posts within that topic heading as being voices within the same discussion.

Not to mention the damage done by Linkspam, Metafandom, et al, of potentially silencing (or causing locked posts) by people who do NOT want to be linked to, because they just aren't up to, or don't have the energy to deal with, or are just a bit intimidated by, the notion of having a hundred people traipse through their journal, and the anxiety of finding out first-hand how many of those newcomer readers, linked-to-by-digest, are there solely for the cage match.
