every publisher who publishes a badly-written story that's basically crap, is one less possibility of publishing a well-written story that's very much NOT crap.
I think this is the root of the problem? We just need to teach people how to write better, clearly!
How to do things like drip-feed information so that you keep people wanting more instead of so overloaded they quit caring. Same goes for descriptions of all types. Oh oh, and how to make narration work for you, so you can show a character's personality through what words they use/what parts of a setting they notice/etc instead of beating people over the head with "he was a loner and hated other people". ... but then, we're getting into my pet peeves a little I think.
