kaigou: this is what I do, darling (A1] Ginko)

Sitting at the corner, waiting to pull into traffic, watching big freaking trucks (of the sort that wish they had license plates that say "farm vehicle" but in fact have never seen a spec of dirt in their life), and I end up having to pull in behind a pokey mini-van. Gnashing my teeth, of course, at the quick glimpse of kid seat in the back, not exactly a Windstar but definitely one of those "room for everyone!" minivans that may be big on the inside but they're damn well small on style, and maybe that's why they're a favorite of suburban souls with no sense of individuality.

Or maybe not.

Because not more than half-block of driving behind this minivan, I realized just what I'd been reading on the bumpersticker right in the middle of the minivan's bumper.

I belong to the NRA, and I voted for Obama.

That sound you hear? That was the sound of my stereotypes getting kicked to the door.

Haha! Nice. But I think that was less about your stereotypes being kicked (NRA,hellooo!) And more about the transformative awesomeness that is Obama. ^___~

Well, CP belongs to the NRA, so the last combination doesn't surprise me all that much -- it's the minivan and the suburban element + NRA, and then Obama thrown in on top of it.
All that was missing was a rainbow flag, and then I don't think the juxtaposition could have gotten any more complete.

But it was still enough for me to be thinking, okay, this is not your average suburban soccer mom in front of me!

Welcome to Austin.

I saw a kid yesterday with a shirt that said, "How many vegetables had to die for your stupid salad?"

Yay for Second Amendment Liberals :D (Yes, I am decidedly liberal in politics--and I'm also of the sort who likes the idea of being able to have personal armament. I'm now extremely curious as to where they got that bumper sticker because not only myself but a number of good friends of mine would LOVE those. :D)

(Then again, I also live in a state that has some of the loosest gun laws in the nation, an infamous yearly shoot at Knob Creek Gun Range where people bring *anti-tank* artillery to show off (among other forms of High Armament), and where people in general love their guns. :D)

Don't be too quick to dis the minivan! I've never owned one but I did have a rental when my Yukon was in the shop and man...with kids...that thing was so convenient I almost bought one for myself. I've always felt that having kids is so much of an inconvenience, not that they're not usually worth the effort, but my god, the EFFORT...that anything that makes the day easier is considered a godsend.

Oh, and hooray for political moderates! I sometimes feel I'm part of a dying breed.
