It's true but those two things aren't on the same level. Sure it all emanates from his neediness and fear of being abandoned but it doesn't determine all his actions, he consciously chose to open up to Ewon and make himself vulnerable in the process.
The curious thing is, if you think about (real people) human psychology, coming from a place where abandonment is an issue means that making yourself vulnerable is only possible when some threshold of security has been met. That is to say, it may seem as though (and to some degree, is true that) Mookyul has really put himself out there. It's just that I don't think he'd do so without having a safety net, some kind of backup plan.
IOW: I think the reason he may never have entertained ditching the Old Man was because if, for whatever reason, Ewon left him, that the Old Man would therefore still be around. Mookyul wouldn't be alone.
Thing is, I think Ewon gets that, especially after his crucial deliberations over putting all your trust in one person, the risk of doing that. The argument has "don't sleep with other people" all over it, but I think the real argument is "where do you put your trust"... which is why it started with "are you sleeping with him" but ended with "do you have two hearts?"
